Loved getting to hang out with Megan and Tom while I photographed their winter engagement session! They are so adorable together and they were all smiles despite being FREEZING! Even though it was cold, it was absolutely beautiful out and we wanted to take advantage of the white fluffy snowfall happening in Saratoga Springs. We started off in Congress Park before heading onto Broadway to wrap up the session, and I love this whole area of Saratoga so I’m a happy gal anytime I get the chance to photograph my couples here! These two are so incredibly sweet that they somehow managed to not laugh at me EITHER of the times I wiped out on the ice during this session. And these weren’t little slips, they were full out sprawled-on-the-ground-in-the-snow falls. Full disclosure; this isn’t even close to the first time I’ve fallen during a shoot (and I fully encourage everyone to laugh at me). Regardless of my new bruises, I had so much fun photographing these two and could not be more excited for their Saratoga wedding later this year!! Here’s a few of my favorite photos from this session - enjoy!
2018 was another fantastic year at Katie Finnerty Photography! I had the privilege of photographing so many incredible couples for their engagement sessions, or just because! You really don’t need a special occasion to get photos taken with your significant other, because it’s ALWAYS a good idea to document moments and memories with the person you love! How many couples have been together for years and still have NO photos of themselves besides crappy quality cell phone shots that we eventually have to delete to clear space on our phones!?
I have so much fun at these sessions, hanging out with and getting to know my clients, and photographing them in some truly beautiful places. I photographed engagement sessions in all of the various climates Rochester, NY has to offer (and the weather is most definitely all over the place here!!), from heavy snowfall to hot & sunny summer nights! I kept it mostly local this year because there are so many gorgeous places in the Rochester area and nearby in the Finger Lakes and Buffalo, but I also got travel to Syracuse, Central Park and the Upper West Side in Manhattan, and Saratoga for some of these sessions!
So thankful for every single person in the photos below who gave me the incredible honor of photographing them this year, and I couldn’t be more excited for those who have weddings coming up this year!! Loved looking back and picking out some of my favorite images from 2018 to share with you here – enjoy!
P.S. Best of 2018 Weddings post is coming soon!!
Vicki and I went to college at Geneseo together and I LOVE HER! She’s an all-around incredible person and I was so excited when she asked if I could photograph her and her fiancé’s engagement session! We did this shoot in early November and we really lucked out with the weather considering it was just a fews days later that snow came to Rochester, and it’s pretty much stayed since! This was one of the last days that really felt like fall, and although a lot of the leaves had already fallen we were able to find a few perfect spots where the trees were still full of color! We started in the village of Pittsford, where Vicki and Justin have spent a lot of time together, and then we headed to Mendon Ponds Park for the second half of the session! These two are so laid-back and fun and photographing them was a breeze!
Kerri & Derek’s anniversary session was definitely one of my favorite shoots of this year and I’m so excited to share some of the images!! Kerri is a fellow photographer and she shares my love of beautiful light, so I was honored when she reached out about this shoot! When she and Derek tied the knot last October, it ended up raining all day so although she has beautiful images to remember their wedding by, she didn’t end up with any of that golden hour light that we obsess over! They even decided to change back into their wedding day attire for the second half of the session, which I was SO excited about!
Kerri and Derek live in Cazenovia so both locations were local to them and new to me, but I knew Kerri would choose some spectacular places and I was right! We started out at Lorenzo State Historic Site in Cazenovia where we strolled around among the fall foliage, flower gardens, and vine-covered walls and I had so much fun capturing the love and laughter between these two, they’re completely adorable!
When we finished up there, we made our way to Red Barn 20, Windridge Estate and I immediately fell in love!! This location has everything I could ever want - from the red barn that inspired it’s name, to an old historic estate, incredible views of the sprawling hills and lakes below, grassy fields, etc! When we arrived, Kerri & Derek changed back into their wedding-day attire (Kerri’s wedding dress is STUNNING) and they looked incredible!! I was so happy when I learned that they planned to renew their vows, and I’m honored that I had the privilege of capturing such special memories for them! Here are a handful of my favorite shots from the session - enjoy!!
With so much beautiful scenery in and around the Rochester area, it’s pretty hard to say what my favorite location to photograph my clients at is, but the George Eastman House is definitely up at the top of the list! The gardens are so picturesque, and I love the mixture of lush greenery, flowers in bloom, and the architecture of the building itself! You might find it hard to believe that these pictures were taken in September and not in the Spring, but some of the gardens were still in bloom even as fall arrived in Western NY.
Kristen & Chris are most definitely one of my 2019 wedding couples that I am most excited about!! They are so easy-going, adorable, and fun to be around, and they have great style as you can see from their engagement session outfits! I had such a great time taking their engagement photos while they were in town last month, and was thrilled we ended up with a day as perfect as this one! The light was absolutely gorgeous! Here are a handful of my favorites from their session!
Ashley & Justin are so sweet and I’m thankful to have lucked out with another incredible couple as my clients! They’re getting married in Albany next Fall (I can’t wait!!) but they live in New Jersey so they wanted to do their engagement photos closer to home, in NYC! We lucked out with a lovely September afternoon and I had a great time wandering around the beautiful brownstone lined streets of the Upper West Side with them, and then into Central Park! I especially love shooting in Central Park, there’s just so much gorgeous scenery and architecture to work with! These two were SUCH a pleasure to photograph and hang out with for a few hours, and I cannot wait to have them in front of my camera again when their wedding day arrives! Here are a few of my favorites from their engagement session – enjoy!
Melissa & Oscar are SUCH a pleasure to be around, they’re so laid back and easy to chat with that photographing their engagement session felt like anything but work! They’ve known each other for over a decade, as they constantly ended up at the same parties and get-togethers since Oscar was good friends with Melissa’s sister and her husband. They typically ended up chatting and cracking each other up at these gatherings, and eventually realized that they never wanted to stop making each other laugh! I’m so glad that I got to photograph some of that joyful laughter during their engagement session last month, and I’m honored that they’ve chosen me to capture this exciting time in their lives! I could not be more excited for their wedding next summer!! Here are a handful of my favorite shots from their engagement session at Durand Eastman Park and Beach! Enjoy!
Loved photographing this sweet couple’s engagement session along the canal in Pittsford a few weeks ago! Michele & Steve are adorable together and they were so much fun to photograph! We lucked out with a gorgeous evening, not too hot or humid and the light was lovely! We took our time walking up and down the canal and exploring all the surrounding scenery that Schoen Place has to offer. These two live right nearby, which made this location perfect as its right in the area that they call home. So happy they chose me to document this happy time in their lives!! Here are some of my favorites from their session; enjoy!
I was back at the beautiful Bristol Harbour Resort again about a month ago for Haley & Matt’s engagement session! It was a Monday night so we basically had the place to ourselves, and it was great to wander all over with these two because there’s so much incredible scenery there! The weather had been a little crazy that day (it was POURING when I left my house in Fairport) so I was relieved that we ended up with such a great night! I had a blast photographing these two and I am THRILLED that they chose me to be their wedding photographer; I can’t wait to have them in front of my camera again on their big day!!! They’re super sweet, laid-back, and love to laugh and have a good time! My favorite images might be the last few, where they popped a few bottles of champagne which sprayed EVERYWHERE and made for some really fun photos that fit their personalities perfectly! Take a look below to see those and more of my favorites from their session! Enjoy!
I had the HUGE honor of photographing the engagement session of one of my favorite couples in the whole world a few weeks ago; Skylar and Greg! Skylar is the whole package. She’s incredibly beautiful on the inside and outside. She a smart, kind, hilarious, fun, all-around wonderful human being and one of my very best friends. We were all living in Rochester a few years ago when Skylar + Greg’s relationship started off, so I got the behind-the-scenes scoops from Skylar as their story unfolded and a few dates turned quickly into being head-over-heels crazy about each other! After meeting Greg I could tell why they hit it off so effortlessly, he is a complete sweetheart and GEM of a human and they really are perfect for each other!
MUCH TO MY DISMAY, these two moved to Chicago where they now live (although I am so happy for them that they’re loving life there I would selfishly love them to move back to Rochester right this moment and be neighbors for the rest of forever). On the plus side, I now have a great reason to visit Chicago! Earlier this year, they made the trip back to Rochester for a weekend visit, and little did Skylar know, Greg was planning to propose! He popped the question at Schoen Place by the canal (they had their first date there as well!) and how he got her down by the water in the middle of Rochester’s frigid winter really shows how much he knows Skylar, he told her there was a mural/tribute to women’s rights that he wanted to show her! Obviosuly, she said YES!
I am ecstatic to be part of their wedding this winter, and since I won’t be able to be their photographer as I’ll be a bridemaid (YAY!) I’m thrilled that I was able to take these engagement photos for them along the canal where they already had such wonderful memories! Here are a few of my favorite shots of these cuties!! Enjoy!
These two make each other completely light up, and there never seems to be a dull moment between them. They’re constantly making each other smile and laugh, and to sum it up; it’s freaking adorable and so refreshing to be around! I had so much fun capturing their chemistry during their engagement session earlier this month! We had a perfect night in Rochester, and we started off surrounded by the greenery at Highland Park before switching up the scenery and heading to the water at Durand Eastman for some photos on the beach at sunset. I could not be more excited to photograph them tie the knot soon!! Love love love my wonderful clients!
I had so much fun getting to know these two and photographing their engagement session a few weeks ago! They are so incredibly sweet and easy to be around, and we had an absolutely perfect spring night in Rochester! We did their session in Mendon Ponds Park, which I love because there's such a variety of scenery to work with. I always recommend doing engagement sessions during the hour or so before sunset because the light on a sunny day is just INCREDIBLE at that time. It's probably my favorite thing to do to just explore a location in this type of light and see how it's falling, and photographing a happy couple in love within it, especially when that couple is as great as Katrice & Chris!! Here's a handful of my favorite images from their session - enjoy!
It feels like spring came and went in the blink of an eye this year, (I guess it’s not technically over but it’s 92 degrees out today so I’m calling it summer) so I’m really glad I was able to photograph some sessions while all the flowers were blooming in full force! It’s been such a busy month and I’m so excited to share images of all the sweet couples I got to photograph over the past few weeks!
Katie & Seth were in college at SUNY Geneseo when they met, and as Katie put it in her first email to me, “there hasn’t been a dull moment since!” I’m always so excited to receive inquiries from fellow Geneseo alumni because I know right off the bat that we have that season of our lives in common and it always ends up being a great fit, and I was especially excited to hear from these two because they’re close friends with a bunch of my friends and previous clients whom I absolutely adore! I loved photographing this session for them and can’t wait for their winter wedding next year!
They live in Washington DC so I was thrilled that we were able to fit their engagement session in while they were visiting Rochester, and I’m extra thankful that we ended up with such a gorgeous evening! We debated heading over to Highland Park because it is just insanely gorgeous in the springtime, but Lilac Festival was going on so we opted to avoid the traffic and crowds (which was very wise judging on how packed it was went I went later in the week – totally worth it for the tacos though YUM!). I think we ended up with an even more beautiful setting at the gardens of the George Eastman Museum. I seriously could never get enough of this location! Here are some of my favorite shots from the night!
I always have so much fun photographing engagement sessions, so when it’s for one of my best friends I’m basically in heaven. Emily is one of the most kind, thoughtful and fun to be around people that I know and I’m so happy she found a guy as wonderful as Ian! When I got the news of their engagement I was at a party where I only knew a few people, but that didn’t stop me from bursting into happy tears! Couldn’t be more excited for these two and am SO looking forward to celebrating with them at their wedding!!
We got together for their engagement session on a chilly February afternoon here in Rochester, but the cold didn’t stop these two from constantly making each other laugh and smile, and basically being the cutest humans in the world. We started off at Mendon Ponds Park, and finished up downtown at High Falls! Here are a handful of my favorite images from their session – enjoy!
I’m so excited to share some images from this snow-filled winter engagement session that I photographed here in Rochester a few weeks ago! Highland Park had turned into a winter-wonderland and the deserted roads and snow-covered pine trees made the perfect setting for Kelsey & Aj’s session! I can hardly believe we almost rescheduled due to weather (can you blame us for thinking a wind chill in the teens and heavy snow might have been a tad too cold?!) but I am beyond thankful that we stuck to the plan because the snow was just so perfect, and exactly what they were hoping for! I was layered up in approximately 30 items of clothing (and looking quite ridiculous I might add) so was super impressed that Kelsey & Aj barely looked cold in their stylish winter outfits! I’ve known Kelsey since college and she is such a sweet person, beautiful on the inside and out, and I’m so thankful that I got to capture these photos of her and her hubby-to-be!
Here are some of my favorites – enjoy!
What a year! I absolutely LOVE engagement sessions for a million reasons, a big one being all the locations they bring me to, from barns to beaches and everything in between. 2017 took me from a brewery in Hoosick Falls, to a sunset boat ride on Lake Sacandaga, to an old fort outside of Buffalo, to the various beautiful parks and neighborhoods right here in Rochester, NY! I certainly got to photograph couples in a lot of gorgeous places this year, but even better than the locations were the people in these photographs! Every couple is totally unique, and I loved getting to know each of them and learning about their love story, which brings me to the other main reason I love photographing engagement sessions; getting to know my clients! The more I get to know you, the better able I am to truly capture the essence of YOU and YOUR relationship. It is so special to have photographs to bring you back to the real emotions and excitement of this wonderful time in your lives!
All of the couples I’ve worked with have one thing in common – they are each an absolute pleasure to photograph! I don’t know how I continuously get so lucky with these incredible couples finding and hiring me, but I am endlessly grateful to them for letting me make these small works of art to showcase their love story. Some of these lovebirds’ weddings have come and gone, but the majority of them will be coming up this year and I couldn’t be more excited for this upcoming wedding season! I had a great time looking through all of 2017’s engagement sessions and narrowing it down to some of my favorite images to share with you here! Enjoy!
There have been some absolutely beautiful snow-filled (and freezing) days lately, and this was one of them! I still get cold when I think about this engagement session, but it was most definitely worth it! Morgan & Nick go to school in Miami (jealous!) so we squeezed their engagement session in while we were all in the Albany area over Christmas to spend the holiday with our families. I absolutely love the outfits they wore - they perfectly nailed coordinating without looking overly "matchy" and I'm always thrilled when someone wears the color red to a session, because it really makes the photos pop, especially when it's against the white snow in winter! Saratoga is one of my favorite places so I was excited that Morgan & Nick liked the idea of doing their engagement photos there! We started off their session in Saratoga Spa State Park by the Hall of Springs, and finished up on Broadway which was decked out for the holidays! Here are a handful of my favorites from their session - enjoy!
Heidi & Jack are exactly the type of couple that I love "working" with, but I can hardly call it work when my clients are so much fun to be around! I remember meeting Heidi a few years ago when she was a bridesmaid for another favorite client of mine, and she said someday she’d be reaching out to me about her own wedding! She was so sweet and I had my fingers crossed that someday I’d hear from her, and earlier this year I did!
For Heidi & Jack, it all started over $.25 chicken wings. They were both out at wing night when they were introduced by a mutual friend, and needless to say, they hit it off! One thing led to another, and over the next 7.5 years they started to build a life together, living in various cities and adopting two dogs who are maybe the most picture-perfect animals I have ever seen in my life!!
I loved hearing Jack describe how he found the perfect place to propose to Heidi while they were on vacation in Hawaii this fall and hiking with friends, but he wanted it to just be the two of him so he persuaded her to go back on the same hike later in their trip. They got stuck in heavy traffic on their way there for the second time, and Heidi was a little less than enthused with the hassle, it was getting late and she wasn’t quite sure why they needed to repeat this hike! Any lack of enthusiasm she may have been feeling melted away and turned to pure joy when Jack asked her to marry him! I love picturing them on the hike back, newly engaged, half skipping half running with huge grins on their faces thinking about all the wonderful things ahead of them!
Here are a few of my favorite images from their engagement session at Old Fort Niagara and around Youngstown! Enjoy!
We had to reschedule Katie & Jessie’s engagement session a few times due to bad weather, so I was thrilled when we finally ended up with a perfect fall day for them! This was a sunrise engagement session, which I don’t end up doing too many of but I am always so happy with the results when I do! We started off at the George Eastman Museum which is surrounded by gorgeous gardens and greenery, and it’s definitely one of my favorite locations to photograph at in Rochester! The light was absolutely perfect as the sun came up and Katie & Jessie were so much fun to photograph – I’m so excited for their wedding next year! We finished the session nearby at Rochester’s Highland Park, where we found a spot with some really colorful foliage (which was surprisingly hard to find this October around here!). Here are a handful of my favorite images from this shoot – enjoy!
I felt like I had an engagement session almost every other night in October, but it could never get old! Each one felt completely unique and I loved getting to know my 2018 wedding couples better! I'm all the more excited for next wedding season, and really can't wait for Sara & Joel to tie the knot next fall! The weather for their engagement session was perfect - sunshine, cool air, a light breeze, and a beautiful sunset! We started off at Highland Park, and then headed over to Turning Point Park to finish it up. These are definitely two of my favorite Rochester parks so it was a really fun shoot, especially because these two are absolutely adorable and so easy to photograph! Here are a handful of my favorite images!
