Nadir and Katie met several years ago when they were both living in Charleston, SC and the story of their first encounter had all their wedding guests laughing during the best man and maid of honor speeches! Nadir was out at a bar with friends when he noticed an unfamiliar (but gorgeous!) woman attempting to surreptitiously take a photo of him. Nadir is a really nice and friendly guy so it’s not surprising that instead of asking her what she was doing, he just offered to pose for the photo! She explained that he thought she looked like a friend’s boyfriend, (but I think everyone is a little suspicious his good looks might have been part of the reason) and they ended up chatting and exchanging numbers! I’d say that when two personalities come together in a situation that could’ve been just a random awkward encounter and it becomes a fun and hilarious start to a love story, you know the couple is really meant to be!
From the minute I arrived to Katie’s parents’ house to photograph her getting ready, every single person I met on this day was just SO nice! I always feel like a couple’s mindsets and attitudes set the tone for a wedding day, and with a pair as kind and easy-going as Katie & Nadir I knew it was going to be an extra special occasion. They made it easy for me to really put my heart and soul into photographing the day, and I’m so thankful they chose me to capture it for them! They tied the knot on a Saturday in February at the Lodge at Welch Allyn in Skaneateles. It’s a gorgeous lodge-style venue in central New York with a cozy feel that makes it absolutely perfect for winter weddings! It was pretty chilly outside (as could be expected in New York in February) but thankfully these two were still willing to go outside for some gorgeous natural light photos! The venue also has lots of huge windows, which was great for indoor photos and as the backdrop to their wedding ceremony!
One of my favorite moments from this day had to be when Katie, her brother, and their parents were on the dancefloor belting out Queen lyrics with all of their heart! It reminded me of my own family and I probably took a million photos of them singing together! The dance-floor was full all night and I love all the action packed dance candids I got to capture!
Here are some of my favorite images – enjoy!
Thank you to Diana Kapatos for second shooting this wedding with me!
